What is Ambulatory Payment Classification?

Ambulatory Payment Classification refers to the procedure the U.S. government uses to pay facilities for the outpatient services provided under the Medicare program. The payment is made to hospitals in cases where the Medicare outpatient is discharged from the Emergency Department or also when transferred to another hospital that is not affiliated with the first hospital in which outpatient services were provided.
